Chennai: In a shocking incident, a 22-year-old woman house surgeon was found dead under mysterious circumstances in her hostel room at the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital on Friday.
Sources said the cause of her death was being ascertained and ther blood and swab samples were sent for testing to find out whether she was exposed to the coronavirus, though she was not on duty at the ward treating COVID-19 patients.
The medico, a resident of Perambur in North Chennai, has been staying in the hostel for the last two weeks ever since the second phase of lockdown came into force, to prevent spread of the corona pandemic.
As she did not come out of her hostel room this morning and did not respond to any calls, police rushed to the spot, broke open the door and found her lying unconscious. She was rushed to the hospital were she was declared brought dead.
Though there were no external injuries on her body, Kilpauk police have registered a case of unnatural death.
Apart from a special team of police personnel, Health department officials and the Medical College Dean also held preliminary inquiries.
The medico was on Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI) and was a day scholar. She has been staying in the hostel in view of the corona lockdown and was posted at the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department.
Police said after conducting an autopsy and if the tests for COVID turned negative, the body would be handed over to her parents.
