Chennai: Chennai once again topped other parts of Tamilnadu with 510 cases on Tuesday and four of them have contracted the virus from Airport Quarantine centre for the first time.
Apart from Chennai, most of the cases linked to Koyambedu were reported Ariyalur (36), Chengalpattu (35), Perambalur/Tiruvallur (27 each), Kanchipuram (24), Tiruvannamalai (13), Ranipet (9), Theni (7), Virudhunagar/Airport Quarantine/Karur (4 each), Tirunelveli (3), Dindugul/Kallakurichi/Tuticorin/Tiruppur (two each), Cuddalore / Kanniyakumari / Tenkasi / Vellore/Villuppuram (one each).
Of the total 8,718 cases, 487 (261 men/226 women) were in the 0-12 age group, 7,635 (5,216/2,416/Transgender-3) in 13-60 age group and 596 (371/225) in the 60-plus age group.
District wise Chennai continued to remain on top of the COVID chart with 4,882 cases, followed by Tiruvallur (467), Cuddalore (396), Chengalpattu (391), Ariyalur (344), Villuppuram (299), Kancheepuram (156), Coimbatore (146), Perambalur (132), Madurai (121), Tiruppur (114), Dindugul (111) and Tiruvannamalai (105).
A total number of 83 people, who have tested positive, were today discharged, as the number of cured patients increased to 2,134.
Till date 2,66,687 samples, including 11,788 today, have been taken and sent for testing, of which 8,718 tested positive, 2,56,720 negative, while testing of 1,249 samples were under process and 11,103 samples were repeat samples of same persons.
The total number of persons tested till date was 2,55,584 which included 11,632 today of which 716 tested positive. A total of 4,401 suspected individuals were under treatment in isolation wards and 6,520 active cases were under treatment.
The State has 55 testing facilities–38 government labs and 17 private labs.
