Chennai: An alumnus of College of Engineering, Guindy, (CEG) along with his team, has come up with an innovative technology solution–using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in CCTV camera–to help people during the COVID-19 pandemic.
CEG alumnus Ragul Puhazhendi (Buzzark Simulations founder), an IIT-Madras incubated start-up along with Sathyanarayanan Kamalraj (Emerging Technology Expert ,Young Alumni convenor AACEG) and Prabhakar Veeraragavan (safety specialist, Regional Labour Institute Alumnus) have come up with this innovative technology solution.
As the nation gears up for reopening of workplaces, social places in a phased manner, the team have identified this key issue in ensuring people follow these preventive safety guidelines, a release from Anna University said.
SMART (Social Distance Ensuring Mask Monitoring Pro-active Re-visualization Technology), BUZZARK CCTV an Artificial Intelligence system, was developed by the team of CEG Alumni which could identify people wearing masks, distinguish between people maintain social distancing and its violators.
Further the technology automatically detects people coming in close contact of less than one meter distance and recognizes them.
Once the violators were identified by this technology, it would automatically send notifications proactively and triggers alarms at PA systems for people to be aware of the violations.
The team has already initiated talks with industries to scale across different industrial verticals soon.
After witnessing a demonstration, Anna University Vice-Chancellor Prof M K Surappa immediately decided to implement this in his office.
Alumni Affairs Anna University Director Dr Vipin Kannan promised to take this technology globally.
