Chennai: With the raising Covid-19 cases, that too at an alarming rate, giving sleepless nights to people and healthcare managers, there is a buzz that a complete lockdown would be implemented in Chennai, Thiruvallur, Chengalpet and Kancheepuram districts which have emerged fertile grounds for the spread of coronavirus.
With the Madras High Court seeking an explanation from the Tamilnadu government in this regard and with traders voluntarily coming forward to shut shops, highly placed sources said a decision on lockdown would be taken by the Cabinet to be chaired by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.
On Thursday, , Madras High Court Judges Vineet Kothari and R Suresh Kumar said, “despite the steps taken by the Tamil Nadu government to contain the coronavirus spread, the number of cases is steeply rising and the situation has become alarming, particularly in the metropolis and its outskirts.”
“Therefore, we want to know whether the government has devised any special scheme, which includes complete lockdown or curfew to contain the spread in Chennai and surrounding areas for sometime,” they said.
