Chennai: When R Jayanthi, dean of the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital went on medical leave recently, it was widely speculated that she had tested positive for Covid-19. But, there was no official confirmation on this.
However, Health Minister C Vijayabaskar himself has now confirmed that Dr Jayanthi was confirmed with coronavirus infection.
“The dean has been working in Covid-19 management for the last three months, knowing that there were chances of being infected. In such circumstances, doctors testing positive isolate themselves, get treated and return to work. Their efforts should be appreciated,” he said.
Stating that the safety of front line workers was the priority for the government, he added that a small percentage of them had tested positive.
Vijayabaskar said testing was being given special attention by the government.
