Chennai: Inspector Sridhar, who is currently in police custody for the custodial torture and death of Jeyaraj and Bennix in Sathankulam has reportedly fallen sick and admitted to a Government Hospital. He is undergoing treatment at the Rajaji Government Hospital in Madurai.
It maybe noted that two Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers investigating the case have tested positive for the novel Coronavirus.
The two officers belong to the eight-member team investigating the Sathankulam custodial death case. The duo began showing symptoms of Covid-19 and following this their swabs were sent to Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai.
Though their identities were not revealed, it is a 47-year-old constable and a 29-year-old sub-inspector. The both have been taken for institutional quarantine.
The CBI is investigating the custodial deaths by five police men of Sathankulam. The father and son were beaten brutally for keeping their shop open beyond the stipulated hours of curfew. However, eye-witness and CCTV footage showed police had randomly picked up Jeyaraj and Bennix was arrested when he came to the police station to inquire why his father was taken into custody.
