Chennai: Tamilnadu yet again recorded close to 7,000 positive cases for the third day Monday, even as 77 fresh deaths took the toll to 3,571 so far.
Of the 77 deaths, 50 were reported in government hospitals and 27 in private hospitals, a bulletin issued by the Health department said.
Of the 6,993 total cases Monday, 6,956 were indigenous cases and 37 were imported cases–those who returned from abroad and other states by air and by road.
With the State recording in excess of 6,000 cases for the fifth consecutive day, the total number of positive cases stood at 2,20,716.
The total number of active cases stood at 54,896. A total of 63,250 samples were tested in the last 24 hours taking the total number of samples tested till date to 24.14 lakh.
A total of 5,723 patients were discharged as the number of cured patients increased to 1,62,249.
Chennai recorded 1,138 cases today, taking the total cases to 95,857. The neighbouring district of Chengalpet recorded and Tiruvallur recorded cases in excess of 400, while Kancheepuram reported 362 cases.
