9.34 lakh persons arrested in TN for violating curfew


Chennai: Even after months of imposing lockdown to prevent the spread of Covid-19, thousands are being booked and fined everyday under Section 144.

The State police have arrested 9,34,995 persons for violating norms of social distancing and venturing out during curfew.

Nearly 8,49,885 violations have been recorded by the police in various districts and FIRs have been registered against them, a press release from DGP’s office said today.

The restrictions have been imposed across the State to curb the spread of coronavirus since 24 March.

As many as 6,65,717 vehicles were seized from these persons.

However, the vehicles are being returned to their owners in a phased manner.

A total amount of Rs 19,58,79,853 has been collected from violators as fines since March.
