Chennai: A five gang member gang involved in stealing of costly silk sarees from a godown were arrested at Puzhal.
Police said the gang broke open the godown and decamped with silk sarees worth more than Rs 15 lakh. One of arrested members was an employee of the godown and he was said to have masterminded the theft.
The godown belonged to a silk sarees dealer who had stocked the sarees in it. On 17 August, he went home after locking the godown. Next day morning, when he went to open the godown, he was shocked to see it broken and silk sarees missing.
Based on a complaint from him, Puzhal police verified the CCTV footages and found that the gang members had come in a car, stolen the sarees and took them in a goods carrier vehicle.
Based on the registration numbers of the vehicles, police busted the gang and seized 321 silk sarees, worth Rs 15 lakh from them and seized the vehicles.
