Chennai: Giving relief to many college students, Tamilnadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has announced cancellation of all exams for UG and PG students, except for the final semester, in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a statement here, he said except for the final semester exams, students who have paid fee for other semester exams would be exempted from taking the exams.Ā The students would be awarded marks based on UGC and AICTE guidelines, he said.
Palaniswami said accepting the request of students and taking into account their welfare and as per the high level panel recommendations the decision to cancel the exams was taken.
The Chief Minister had on 23 July announced that semester exams for all UG and PG courses in arts, science, engineering streams–except final year–and polytechnics were cancelled.
This followed a recommendation by the high level committee formed by the government, he said.
The Committee had in its report said the situation was not conducive to hold the semester exams in view of the coronavirus pandemic situation.
Taking into account the interests of students, marks would be awarded based on the UGC and AICTE guidelines.
He said the first and second year students of Arts and Science and polytechnic stream, first year PG students, first, second and third year UG and first year PGĀ engineering students and first and second year MCA students were exempted from the exams for this semester only and were allowed to enter the next academic year.
A Government Order was also issued in this regard by the Higher Education department, Palaniswami said.
