Chennai: An explosion at a fireworks factory killed nine persons in Kattumannarkoil, Cuddalore.

Four other persons who were injured were rushed to a hospital. The cause for the explosion is not yet known.

However, some reports peg higher number of casualties.

A police team consisting of Superintendent of police, M Sree Abhinav was at the spot taking stock of the situation. Police have registered a case and are finding out the reason for the explosion.

Reports claimed that the intensity of the blast had brought down the entire building.

Several vehicles of Tamilnadu Fire and Rescue Services were pressed into service.

It may be noted that in mid-March, eight persons died and 11 sustained injuries in an explosion at a fireworks factory in Sippiparai near Sattur town in Virudhunagar district.

The factory did not have a license to manufacture fireworks and close to 30 workers were at the site when the explosion took place.
