Chennai: Though Covid-19 cases are slowly coming down in Tamilnadu, the State is expected to witness a second wave of coronavirus infections because many more services and establishments have been opened up.
A sero-prevalence study in Chennai indicated that as much as 20 per cent of the cityâs population, which accounts for one-eighth of the Stateâs total population, could be infected. Experts also fear the same.
Meanwhile, Covid-19 cases recorded a marginal drop in Tamilnadu on Sunday. The state added 5,783 new patients to its Covid tally. The number of people discharged (5,820) on the day was little higher than new cases, leaving 51,458 people under treatment.
The number of infections in Chennai was 955; patients discharged were 1,100; deaths were 17 and active cases were 11,264. The number of deaths increased by 88 to a total of 7,836.
