Chennai: The Opposition DMK has announced that its women’s wing headed by its secretary and Lok Sabha MP Kanimozhi will lead a candle light march to Raj Bhavan today seeking justice to hathras rape victim in Uttar Pradesh.
In a statement here, DMK president M K Stalin said the carrying candle lights, the rally would commence from Rajiv Gandhi statue in Guindy and would culminate in Raj Bhavan urging the Uttar Pradesh government to protect women, minorities, scheduled tribes whose safety has become a question mark in that State.
Alleging that the UP government was trying to protect the accused and cover up the case, he said the incident has created ripples not only in Uttar Pradesh, but also across India.
Condemning the alleged manhandling of Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka when they went to meet the families of the victim, he said demacratic and human rights were violated.
He also urged the UP polie to withdraw the cases registered against the Congress leaders in this regard.
