Chennai: Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah’s visit to Chennai tomrrow is the talk of the town.
With Assembly elections in Tamilnadu round-the-corner, Amit Shah’s visit assumes greater significance.
As per schedule, the Union Minister will declare open Thervoy Kandigai reservoir (Chennaiâs fifth reservoir) and also lay the foundation stone for several infrastructure projects. It includes laying foundation for Phase II of the Chennai Metro Rail project (Rs 61,843 crore), elevated corridor on Coimbatore-Avinashi Road (Rs 1,620 crore), construction of new barrage across the Cauvery at Nanjai Pugalur in Karur district (Rs 406 crore), Chennai Trade Centre extension project (Rs 309 crore), Indian Oil Corporation Terminal at Vallur in Tiruvallur district (Rs 900 crore), Lube plant at Amullaivoyal (Rs 1,400 crore) and a new berth at Kamarajar port in Chennai (Rs 900 crore) to boost cargo handling.
After his official engagements, Amit Shah is expected hold crucial meetings with Tamilnadu BJP leaders about their preparations for the forthcoming elections and what alliance to be stitched. He may discuss with them about the constituencies where the party is confident of winning.
A grand reception is being planned by BJP to welcome Amit Shah tomorrow from Chennai airport. The state BJP unit is looking for high-profile people who can be inducted into the party in his presence.
Ahead of Amit Shah’s arrival, the AIADMK convened a meeting of its senior leaders to discuss poll-related issues today.
Buzz is that the AIADMK and the BJP are to hold preliminary alliance talks and discuss seat-sharing and hence the visit of Shah is crucial for NDA alliance in Tamilnadu.
