Chennai: DMK president M K Stalin on Sunday made a veiled reference to actor Rajinikanth’s decision to enter politics and said some people were compelled to start a political party to defeat the DMK and prevent it from coming to power in the upcoming Assembly elections due in 4-5 months time.
Addressing the DMK district secretaries and office-bearers here, he said efforts were being made to prevent DMK from coming to power. But, no one could stop DMK from winning the ensuing polls and come back to power.
Pointing out that a three-pronged attack was being unleashed on the DMK to scuttle its chances, he said, ‘like Arjunan’s aim in the epic Mahabharata which never failed to hit the target, our aim (to win the polls by a massive mandate) will not miss this time’.
Observing that the victory could not be achieved that easily, the DMK chief, in an apparent reference to the ruling AIADMK and the BJP said, all out efforts would be made to prevent DMK’s victory.
In this context, he made a veiled reference to Rajini’s decision to enter politics and his announcement that the details would be unveiled on 31 December.
Stalin said some people were being compelled to enter politics and start a political party to defeat the DMK and prevent it from coming to power.
He also said the DMK cadres should also ensure that all the Ministers were defeated in the elections.
DMK General Secretary Duraimurugan announced that Stalin would hit the campaign trail from 23 December to 10 January, 2021 during which he would hold 16,000 gram sabha meetings and meet people across the State.
A campaign video with the slogan ‘Rejecting AIADMK’ was also released at the meeting.
