
Chennai: A day after the Tamilnadu government announced the appointment of senior IAS officer Rajeev Ranjan as the Chief Secretary of the State, he assumed charge at the Secretariat today.
Ranjan, who was last week repatriated from the Centre to his parent cadre (Tamilnadu), âon the requestâ of the State government, succeeds K Shanmugam, who retired from service.
Meanwhile, Shanmugam, who was given two extensions as Chief Secretary, was appointed as Advisor to the government for a period of one year.
Like his predecessor Shanmugam, Ranjan also belonged to the 1985 batch of the IAS.
Ranjan will superannuate in September this year.
