Chennai: Amid increasing cases of Covid-19 in various parts of Tamilnadu, there are speculations and rumours on social media that lockdown would be implemented in the State once again to check the spread of the pandemic.
It is said that curfew would come into force once the Assembly elections are over in the first week of April.
When asked about this, a senior official of Health department said, ‘as of now, there is no plan to implement lockdown. We are putting our best efforts to control the spread and are hopeful of reducing the spread in a week or two.’
The official asked the public to be extra careful and wear masks without fail. “Carelessnes among the public is the main reason behind the increase in cases again. They should understand that the pandemic is not over yet,” he added.
Tamilnadu, which is once again witnessing a spike in Covid-1 infections, Monday registered 836 new Covid-19 cases, taking the total number of persons tested positive for coronavirus infection in the State so far to 8,60,562.
According to the daily bulletin released by the State Health department last evening, the capital city of Chennai registered 317 cases in the last 24 hours.
With this, the total number of persons affected by the pandemic in the metropolis has reached 2,39,131.
