Chennai: After the Election Commission released the final list of candidates for the 6 April Tamilnadu Assembly elections following scrutiny and accepting the withdrawal of 296 nominations, interesting details have emerged.
Karur will have the maximum number of 84 contestants and Valparai, nestled between the Anamalai Tiger reserve and Pollachi, will have just six candidates vying for the post of MLA.
Officials said six EVMs will be used in each booth in Karur. A total of 7,255 nominations were received, of which over 4,400 were accepted and over 2,700 rejected. Over 300 nominations were withdrawn. In the Kanniyakumari Lok Sabha constituency, where a byelection will be held on 6 April, 10 of the 23 nominations were rejected and the rest accepted.
In Chennai, a total of 393 candidates will contest polls from the 16 assembly constituencies. Thirty six candidates are in fray in Kolathur where DMK president M K Stalin is contesting.
RK Nagar and Saidapet constituency have 31 and 30 candidates respectively. In Edappadi, from Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami is facing elections, 28 are in the fray.
