Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress today wrote to the Election Commission alleging that BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari is harbouring criminals in Nandigram, the constiuency from where he is contesting the upcoming West Bengal polls against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Suvendu Adhikari, the BJP’s most important import from Bengal’s ruling Trinamool, has challenged Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram, setting up the most high-voltage contest in the eight-round Bengal election.
In a letter to the EC, Trinamool Congress leader Derek O’Brien has listed addresses of the alleged criminals – non-residents – being harboured in Nandigram to cause trouble. He has asked the Election Commission to immediately catch these elements and act against them.
Some ’30-40 boys’ have been staying since December at the home of Kalipada Shee and move around in motorcycles, the Trinamool leader alleged. He also said Adhikari was a regular visitor to the house.
“It has come to our knowledge that Suvendu Adhikari, the candidate fielded by Bharatiya Janata Party, Nandigram AC- 210, has been harbouring criminals, who are non-residents of Nandigram,” Brien alleged.
