
Chennai: Tamilnadu Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo has dismissed as rumours claims that the State Assembly elections would be postponed due to Covid-19 spread.
Asked on the possibilities of postponing the polls in view of increasing Covid-19 cases, Sahoo replied in the negative.
“ECI has been in constant touch with the government and health officials and the situation is being monitored closely,” he said.
“There is no plan to change poll date,” he aded. The CEO said as many as 2,743 nominations of 7,255 received in 234 constituencies were rejected. About 4,512 nominations were accepted.
Seizure of cash and kind valued at Rs 231.63 crore has been recovered by various enforcement agencies in poll-bound Tamilnadu so far, Sahoo said.
Listing out details of the seizure done by flying squads, static surveillance teams, IT personnel and others, Sahoo said cash constituted Rs 83.99 crore out of the Rs 231 crore recovery.
Precious metals, apparently gold, worth Rs 130.51 crore and liquor valued at Rs 1.70 crore have also been seized, he added.
