Chennai: With just a few hours left before campaigning ends ahead of the second phase of the Assembly elections on Thursday, Home Minister Amit Shah and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the top leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) have hit the streets and held a series of rallies and roadshows today.
Mamata Banerjee was met with ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans today as she crossed the venue of Amit Shah’s road show in the same area.
Banerjee, who is holding a road show of her own in Nandigram on Tuesday, was
chased by people raising ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans.
Amit Shah on Monday attacked Banerjee over the demise of the mother of a BJP worker. The 85-year-old was allegedly beaten up by TMC workers in Nimta area of North 24 Parganas district a month ago.
“Anguished over the demise of Bengal’s daughter Shova Majumdar ji, who was brutally beaten by TMC goons. The pain and wounds of her family will haunt Mamata didi for long. Bengal will fight for a violence-free tomorrow, Bengal will fight for a safer state for our sisters and mothers,” Shah tweeted.
Banerjee Monday said she does not support violence against women and is not aware of the real reason behind the death and wondered why Amit Shah remains silent when women are ‘tortured to death’ in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh.
