Chennai: A day after Chief Secretary Rajeev Ranjan chaired a high level meet on Covid-19 situation in the State, it is expected that the Tamilnadu government would announce more curbs today.

Sources said Health secretary Dr J Radhakrishnan and other senior officials took part in the meet, which was held to consider whether further restrictions are required in view of the rising number of Covid-19 cases.

If sources are to be believed, either a partial lockdown or a micro-containment strategy is likely be put in place. Chances of weekend curfew are also not ruled out.

Tamilnadu on Friday registered 8,449 new cases, and the total number of infections has touched 9,71,384.

The capital city of Chennai registered 2,636 cases. With this, the total number of persons affected by the pandemic in the metropolis has touched 2,77,300.
