Kolkata: In wake of Cyclone Yaas, several houses were damaged in Naihati and Halisahar of North 24 Paragans district of West Bengal, due to the strong winds that hit the region.
Electricity polls were damaged and trees were uprooted. Police and resuce officials were present at the site.
Cyclone Yaas, the second storm to hit India in less than two weeks, intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm on Tuesday, as it barrelled towards the country’s eastern coast.
Around 11.5 lakh people were evacuated from vulnerable places in West Bengal on Tuesday.
In view of the storm, the coastal states of West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand carried out a mass evacuation drive and shifted over 12 lakh people to safe shelters by late evening.
