Chennai: Tamilnadu has so far reported 400 mucormycosis (black fungus) cases, with Chennai having the most (113) followed by Vellore (74) and Coimbatore (43). Of them, 204 were treated at private hospitals and the rest at government facilities.
Following this, the Tamilnadu government has constituted a special task force to tackle mucormycosis.
The 12-member committee is chaired by the Director of Medical Education (DME) and will advise the State government on issues related to mucormycosis, the fungal disease which is reported in patients recovering from Covid-19 infection.
A statement by the State Health department said the committee comprised of health experts from the public and private sector would advise the state government on the prevention and treatment of the disease. This task force would also update the government on the latest international research on mucormycosis.
