Chennai: The number of active Covid-19 cases in Tamilnadu has dropped below the two lakh-mark.
There are 1,88,664 patients currently undergoing treatment for covid in the State, almost a 30 per cent drop compared to last week.
However, while Chennai dropped to fourth place in the total number of active cases (12,210), western districts occupied the top three spots. Coimbatore (21,184) topped the chart followed by Tiruppur (17,485) and Erode (13,102). Another western district, Salem, was fifth in this list with 10,168 active cases.
As far as new cases are concerned, Coimbatore (2,236) and Erode (1,390) reported more cases than Chennai (1,223).
Meanwhile, recoveries continued to eclipse new infections with 32,049 people recovering on Thursday, taking the total to 20,91,646 leaving 1,88,664 active cases, a medical bulletin said.
Tamilnadu recorded its highest daily infections tally at 36,184 cases on 21 May and since then it has been witnessing a declining trend.
