Chennai: The Tamilnadu unit of the Congress has staged a protest demonstration across the State condemning the Lakhimpur violence in which nine people were killed and the detention of party leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Tamilnadu Congress Committee president K.S. Alagiri led the protest at the TNCC headquarters Sathiyamurthy Bhavan in the city, in which scores of party workers, including MLAs and functionaries participated.

During the protest, they shouted slogans denouncing the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre for its ‘atrocities’ against the farmers who had been staging protests demanding withdrawal of the three Farm laws.

They also denounced the Uttar Pradesh government for detaining Priyanka Gandhi Vadra when she visited to meet the families of the Lakhimpur violence victims.

Similar protests were held in front of the offices of the district Collector across the State condemning the police high-handedness and demanded that the Uttar Pradesh government should apologise to Priyanka.

They also demanded the resignation of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the violence.
