Chennai: Seven districts were responsible for over half the 1,359 fresh Covid-19 infections recorded in Tamilnadu on Friday. The State’s case tally touched 26,75,592.

As has been the case for weeks, Chennai led the tally with 169 cases, followed by Coimbatore with 140.

Chennai recorded 169 new cases while 140 cases were reported in Coimbatore. Chengalpattu recorded 103 cases and other districts had less than 100 cases each. The overall TPR in the State stood at 1 per cent, with the highest of 1.8 per cent recorded in Tiruvarur and Mayiladuthurai.

While 27 more deaths took the death toll to 35,734, recoveries eclipsed new infections with 1,487 people getting discharged in the last 24 hours.

A total of 1,43,355 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, pushing the cumulative number of specimens examined to 4,81,79,959.

Six districts added new cases below double digits, while there were no fresh deaths in 25 districts.
