Chennai: Tamilnadu political arena may be in for some dramatic developments on 16 October, on the eve of the 50th founding day of the AIADMK.
Expelled AIADMK general secretary V K Sasikala is likely to visit the memorial of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on 16 October, a day ahead of the golden jubilee celebration of the founding of the AIADMK party.
This will be Sasikala’s first visit to the memorial since she was released from the Parappana Agrahara prison in Bengaluru after serving a four-year jail term in a disproportionate assets case.
Sources said she will also visit party founder and former CM MGR’s T Nagar residence and Ramavaram Gardens the following day and mark the occasion by paying floral tributes at the memorial of the matinee idol-turned-Chief Minister, whose statue she unveiled in January 2017 on the sidelines of his birth centenary.
The visit would come days after the local rural body poll results which are set to be declared on 12 October. Having secured defeats in both the 2019 Lok Sabha and the 2021 Assembly election, the AIADMK’s performance in these polls will be closely watched.
The party is currently headed by O Panneerselvam and Edappadi K Palaniswami, both former Chief Ministers.
