Chennai: Fresh cases in Tamilnadu came below the 600-mark on Friday with 597 new cases, ten less than its tally on Thursday. The seven deaths took cumulative toll since March 2020 to 36,714.
Recoveries outnumbered new infections with 681 people getting discharged in the last 24 hours, aggregating to 26,99,309 leaving 6,798 active infections.
Except for Ariyalur and Theni, all other districts recorded fresh infections in the past 24 hours. As many as 22 districts recorded fewer than 10 infections each. At present, 6,798 persons are under treatment, either at home or in health facilities.
Four patients with travel history to the UK, one each from Africa and Europe tested positive for Covid-19, beside one patient from Andhra Pradesh who travelled by road.
In 3,304 sessions to administer Covaxin and Covishield vaccines, 1,49,147 beneficiaries were vaccinated.
Chennai and Coimbatore accounted for the majority of new infections with 146 and 90 cases respectively, while the remaining were spread across other districts.
