Chennai: Leader of Opposition and AIADMK joint coordinator Edappadi K Palaniswami wanted to know what prevented the DMK regime from implementing an electoral promise of getting petroleum products covered under the Goods and Services Tax. He demanded a clarification from Chief Minister M K Stalin on the issue.
In a statement, he said that the public are upset with the DMK for not fulfilling its poll manifesto and also not continuing the Rs 2,500 Pongal cash gift scheme introduced by the previous AIADMK regime. At the same time inflation due to the higher fuel cost had affected the common man escalating the prices of all essential commodities.
Senior DMK leader and party treasurer T R Baalu, in an interview to a Tamil news channel, has said that bringing petrol and diesel under the GST was featured in his party’s manifesto for the 2021 polls, Palaniswami said.
‘When Baalu has himself recommended bringing petrol and diesel under the GST, Stalin should inform the people on what was preventing them from not implementing that assurance made in the run up to the Assembly election,’ the AIADMK leader, also the former Chief Minister said.
