Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the Tamilnadu’s traditional harvest festival of Pongal at Madurai on 12 January.
The festival ‘Modi Pongal’ will be organised by the Tamilnadu unit of the BJP, party State president K Annamalai said in a statement here.
He also announced formation of a 12-member organising committee headed by State secretary Karu Nagarajan for the successful conduct of the festival.
A six-member reception committee was also formed by the party, he said. During his visit, Modi is also expected to visit Virudhunagar where he would be inaugurating new medical colleges in the State in which Chief Minister M K Stalin, Health Minister M Subramanian and others will participate.
This will be Modi’s first visit to the State after the DMK came back to power in the 2021 Assembly elections after a gap of ten years.
