Sharp increase of Covid cases in TN


Chennai: With a total of 1,155 persons testing positive for Covid-19 in the State on Friday, the daily tally has crossed 1,000 in Tamilnadu after two months.

According to a bulletin by the State Health department, the cumulative total rose to 27,48,045. Of the 1,155 cases, 10 had returned from abroad while 1 from West Bengal. The rest of the cases were reported within the state. Of the foreign returnees, 7 were from UAE, while 1 each from Qatar, Sri Lanka and Oman.

Chennai, which reported 397 cases on Thursday, clocked 589 new cases on Friday. However, the city did not record any death due to Covid-19.

While 603 persons were discharged, the number of active cases rose to 7,470. Chennai’s active caseload crossed 2,000 as 2,403 persons are under treatment. The State tested a total of 1,04,615 samples, while another 1,23,261 persons were vaccinated in the State.
