Chennai: Disappointed after an expert committee rejected Tamilnadu’s tableau for the Republic Day Parade in New Delhi, Chief Minister M K Stalin has announced that it would be showcased at the Republic Day celebrations organised by the State government in Chennai and taken to the key places in the State.
In a statement, he also said a photo exhibition titled, ‘Tamilnadu in Freedom Struggle’, which was held earlier in Chennai, would be organised in major cities across the country.
Stalin reiterated that Tamilnadu’s contribution to the freedom struggle predated the 1857 uprising, Stalin said its role was “no less important than that of other States.
Earlier, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday wrote to Stalin and his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee over the exclusion of the States’ tableaux from the Republic Day parade in New Delhi.
In his letter to Stalin, Singh said Tamilnadu’s tableau could not make it into the final list of 12 tableaux selected for participation in the Republic Day Parade.
‘This is also to bring to your kind information that during the last few years, tableau from the State of Tamilnadu has been selected for participation in R-Day during 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2021,’ Singh further wrote to Stalin.
On Monday, Stalin expressed disappointment over the Centre’s rejection of the State Tableau for the Republic Day celebrations in the national capital and sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s immediate intervention to have it included.
Excluding the tableau would deeply hurt the sentiments and patriotic feelings of the people of Tamilnadu, he said.
