
Chennai: Tamilnadu Health Minister M Subramanian, while expressing relief over coming down of Covid cases, however said, ‘but many elderly particularly the unvaccinated and those with comorbid conditions continue to have a severe form of the disease. They require hospitalisations including ICU admissions.’
He urged all to take jabs without fail. More than 80 per cent of the dead are above 60 years. ‘More than 1.10crore people are due for the second dose of the vaccine. The mega vaccination drives are organized with these people as primary targets,’ he said.
Presently, 77,607 persons were under treatment in the State. Chennai’s active caseload fell to 10,292, while Coimbatore’s active cases dropped below 10,000 with 9,888 persons under treatment.
Subramanian said in Tamilnadu among those who tested Covid-19 positive, only four per cent required hospitalisation and seven per cent of patients were in the intensive care unit.
‘Coming Saturday (12 February) the 22nd Covid mega vaccination camp will be held. Till date 7.59 lakh people have received the precautionary booster dose in the State,’ he added.
