Chennai: ABVP national general secretary Nidhi Tripathy and 34 others were arrested here last night for trying to hold a protest in front of Chief Minister M K Stalin’s residence, demanding fair investigation into the suicide of Thanjavur school girl Lavanya.

Of the detained, 32 were remanded in judicial custody till 28 February by a metropolitan magistrate court in Chennai while three juveniles were let off, said the police.

A police officer said, ā€œThe protestors breached the first line of the security and ran into the residence of the CM instead of considering the security aspects and cooperating with the police force deployed there. This made us use force and drag them out of the area. People from other States and three juveniles were among the protestors.’

The incident shocked the CM security personnel, who were taken by surprise. Nithi Tripathi stated that even after the case was handed over to the CBI, Tamilnadu government was not cooperating and demanded justice for the student who alleged that she died due to forced conversion pressure.
