Chennai: Continuing its disciplinary action against members who contested the urban local body polls against the party’s and its allies’ official candidates, the DMK today suspended 55 more from the party.
The 55 belong to Vellore, Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Tirupur and Thoothukudi districts. Earlier, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Duraimurugan suspended 26 cadres in Thanjavur district from the party since they pitted themselves against the official DMK and alliance candidates fielded in the urban local bodies elections to be held on 19 February.
Duraimurugan issued a statement in the party mouthpiece ‘Murasoli’ that party functionaries, who filed nomination against the party and its alliance partiesâ official candidates, have been suspended from primary membership of the party and their party posts for ‘violating the partyâs line and bring bad name to it by their act.’
