Chennai: The Madras High Court today passed an order validating the election held for South Indian Artists Association (SIAA) (commonly known as Nadigar Sangam) in 2019. The bench of Justices Pushpa Satyanarayana and Mohammed Saffiq passed the orders to open sealed ballot box for counting. Results shall not be declared within three weeks.
In 2020, the Madras High Court had declared the election to Nadigar Sangam as null and void. Justice K Kalyanasundaram then passed the order on a batch of pleas moved by members of the association alleging irregularities in the preparation of voters list for the election and permitting outstation voters to cast their votes through postal ballots.
Challenging the order, actor Vishal, association general secretary, moved the High Court.
The Nadigar Sangam elections, which took place in June 2019 recorded 1,604 votes out of a total of 3,171 votes in the union. The votes registered, however, were not counted. Nasser and Vishal team saw challenge from Ishari Ganesh and team.
