Chennai: A Chennai court has sentenced former Deputy General Manager of the Food Corporation of India Dorai Raj and his wife Sarumathi to three years of rigorous imprisonment in a money laundering case.
The Enforcement Directorate said the Additional Sessions Court also slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 each on them.
It convicted Dorai Raj, a former DGM of the FCI, Chennai, and his wife, Sarumathi, the ED said in a statement.
The court also ordered confiscation of land and building worth Rs 81 lakh in the name of Sarumathi. ED initiated a probe following the filing of a chargesheet by the CBI’s anti-corruption bureau alleging huge amounts of illegal gratification received by Dorai Raj and other FCI officers in Chennai.
The two have been convicted under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
