Coimbatore: In a tragic incident, a 50-year-old woman and her two daughters died of suffocation after the battery in the Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system exploded in their residence. The pet dog of the family also perished in the tragedy.

The deceased were identified as J Vijayalakshmi and her daughters J Archana (24) and J Anjali (21), who were residing at their house at Urumandampalayam.

The incident came to light Tuesday morning after Vijayalakshmi’s uncle came to the house and found smoke billowing from inside. As there was no response from the inmates, he broke the doors and found all the three dead.

Police said none of them suffered any burns or injuries and they have died of suffocation after the battery in the UPS exploded and the smoke engulfed the entire room.

Acting on information, police and fire service personnel rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies to the government hospital for post mortem.
