Chennai: Nineteen districts in Tamilnadu had no new Covid 19 cases and eight others had one case each on Wednesday, when the State added 72 fresh cases to its registry.
Chennai reported 23 cases, followed by Chengalpattu 12, Coimbatore 7, and The Nilgiris, Thanjavur and Tiruchy 4 cases each, while 19 districts recorded nil cases.
Recoveries outnumbered new cases with 161 people getting discharged in the last 24 hours, aggregating to 34,13,248 leaving 873 active infections, a medical bulletin said.
A total of 36,100 samples were tested, taking the overall number of samples tested to 6,51,19,008.
On Wednesday, 188 Covid patients were admitted to hospitals and among them, 22 were in the intensive care units across the state. Of the 297 active cases in Chennai, 42 are in hospitals.
The test positivity rate (TPR) in Tamilnadu stood at 0.2 per cent after testing of 35,611 samples. Chennai, Krishnagiri, and Ramanathapuram reported the highest TPR with 0.6 per cent each, while Chengalpattu, Dharmapuri and Thoothukudi recorded 0.4 per cent each.
