Chennai: A woman doctor hailing from Bihar returning home after watching a late night movie was abducted and gang-raped by five other occupants of a share auto at Katpadi in Vellore district. All five have been arrested. Two of them are juveniles.
Vellore North Police said the woman was returning with her colleague, a native of Nagpur in Maharashtra, after watching night show at a cinema hall in Katpadi when they boarded the auto in which there were four male ‘passengers’.
After parking the vehicle at a secluded spot near a burial ground, the five persons assaulted the duo and three of them gang-raped her. The accused also robbed the duo of cash and gold jewellery.
An inquiry has been initiated into the complaint based on the orders of S Rajesh Kannan, the Superintendent of Police, Vellore. Three of the accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act, while the juveniles have been booked under Section 21 of the Juvenile Justice Act.
