Chennai: A 26-year-old teacher of a private school in Tiruchi has been arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act for ‘marrying’ a 17-year-old Class-11 student.
Police said the boy had gone missing on 5 March and a complaint was filed by his parents. Upon inquiry at the school, it was found that the teacher had also gone missing the same day.
The police further traced their mobile numbers and found that both the numbers were switched off at the same time. On further inquiry, the police found that the duo had been in a relationship.
The Tiruchi Police were able to narrow down the place where the teacher and the minor were staying. The 26-year-old teacher was then arrested under sections of the Pocso Act for marrying a minor.
Meanwhile, a 46-year-old physical education teacher of the Government Home for Children in Ranipet district was arrested for allegedly abusing seven minor boys sexually.
Police said he had made the boys watch adult videos and abused them for months. He was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and Section 506 (1) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
