Chennai: The Raj Bhavan has issued a rejoinder refuting a ‘fabricated’ news item on Tamilnadu Governor R N Ravi’s speech published by online news agencies on 1 April captioned ‘Nation is important than a State’.

A Raj Bhavan communique here said online media had published news on speech of the Governor who participated in the 22nd Convocation of Tamilnadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) here 3 March and published the news fabricated as said by the Governor in the function.

Quoting the published news, it said ‘Nation is important than a State. One should not think state-wise but should think and act broadly with ideas for the India. State-wise development will not lead to balanced development for the country. It will not be right for our Nation and also will create more ups downs and difference’. In the rejoinder, the Raj Bhavan reproduced his speech in the function in which the Governor had said that ‘differential access to the basic ingredients of a healthy citizenship like food, shelter, health, education, drinking water, electricity etc. has resulted in a situation that even after so many decades of independence, our country still has a large number of poor, homeless, sick and illiterate people.’

‘It has created regional and sub-regional imbalances and tensions. A Nation cannot grow like this. India cannot reach its optimal potential. The all-inclusive delivery of these basic needs and services to every citizen without any discrimination whatsoever by the Government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seeking to address these issues. Delivery of these needs and services including cooking gas to every house, direct benefit transfer to every poor and marginalized farmers, home, health, education, electricity, drinking water and food for all the poor is fast transforming our Nation for better’, it said, quoting the Governor as having spoke at the function.
