TN attracted Rs 68,000 crore investments in 10 months: CM

Chennai: Chief Minister M K Stalin said Tamilnadu has attracted Rs 68,375 crore investment since the DMK government took over the reins 10-months ago.

Speaking after laying a foundation stone for establishing a footwear manufacturing unit in Villupuram district, he said the State government has so far signed 130 MoUs for attracting fresh industrial investments that is expected to generate employment to more than two lakh people.

He said setting up facilities in rural areas will lead to industrial development and also provide jobs to the rural populace for their livelihood, paving way for social peace and industrial development, which were linked together.

Recalling the steps taken by the DMK government for industrial development, Stalin invited the firm to set up more new facilities in several places in the State, including in southern districts taking advantage of the favourable investment climiate.

Stating that Tamilnadu was the leading State in country and at Global level
in footwear manufacturing, the Chief Minister said the State’s component was
26 per cent of the total quantum in the country and 45 per cent were exports.

He said the State has got big opprtunities for capturing the footwear market,
both ordinary and sports footwear. He also said with a view to meet the domestic and export demand, he had urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to Delhi to create manufacturing clusters for footwear industry and provide Production Linked Incentive.

Stalin also announced that the State will soon unveil its new Leather
and Footwear Policy as several footwear players have evinced keen
interest in setting up their facilities in the State, apart from a Women
Policy for women empowerment and for their economic development.

He said within ten months of assuming office, the DMK government has
signed 130 MoUs attracting an investment of Rs 68,375 crore and creating
jobs to 2,05,402 people.

He also said that the Union Commerce and Industry Ministry in its report
had said taht foreign investments at the all India level has been reduced
by 16 per cent and that the investments attracted by Tamilnadu this
year when compared to last year has seen a 41.5 per cent growth.

Such a development is a big achievement and it is a good name for the
good governance, he said, and appealed to all investors to invest in the
State to achieve the goal of USD one trillion economy by 2030.

He appealed to them to use the skills of the youth and promised full support
to the investors with open heart.
