Chennai: The Woman Special Deputy Collector of Kallakurichi district and a 11-year-old girl were killed and five others were injured when the official car in which she was travelling met with an accident at Sankarapuram near
Kallakurichi on Friday.
Police said the deceased were identified as the Special Deputy Collector (Social Security Scheme) Rajamani (53) and Gopika.
Rajamani was travelling along with her son Vikram, daughter Sindhu and neighbour Pazhaniammal. When the vehicle neared the Sankarapuram taluk office, the front tyre of the car got burst following which the driver lost control of the vehicle and knocked down Gopika, who was playing in front of her house, before colliding with a two-wheeler injuring the driver Vignesh and the pillion rider Girija.
While Rajamani and Gopika died on the spot, the five injured–three in the car and the two, who were travelling in the two-wheeler, were admitted to Sankarapuram General Hospital for treatment.
