Chennai: India has reported 2,527 new Covid cases, 1,656 recoveries in the last 24 hours, the Union government said today.
Active caseload has risen to 15,079, while 33 deaths were reported taking the total death count to 5,22,149.
187.46 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far under the nationwide vaccination drive, 83.42 crore total tests conducted so far; 4,55,179 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.
The Omicron variant of coronavirus and its sub-types are driving the surge in Delhi, reports said. Samples have shown the presence of BA.2.12.1 and eight other subtypes of Omicron. The findings were arrived at after studying genome sequencing of samples.
