Chennai: Eight personnel, including inspector Senthil Kumar and sub-inspector of police Pugazhum Perumal and a Home Guard member appeared before the CB-CID investigation officer in connection with the custodial death of V Vignesh, 25, at the Secretariat Colony police station on 19 April.

Others, who were summoned by the CB-CID sleuths, are SI Ganapathi, constable Ponraj, Home Guard member Deepak, writer Munaf, head constable Kumar, AR driver Karthik and woman constable Ananthi.

Three personnel – SI Pugazhum Perumal, constable Ponraj and Deepak from Home Guard – were already placed under suspension.

Meanwhile yesterday the TN Asembly witnessed war of words exchanged over custodial death of Vignesh, who was taken into custody by the Purasawalkam police in Chennai on 18 April. While the police said that he died due to seizures, the autopsy report revealed that there were 13 injury marks on his body.

Thr Chief Minister said, ‘murder charges would be slapped on the policemen who took Vignesh into custody after which he was found dead’.
The Vignesh custodial death case was transferred to the CB-CID by the Chief Minister after allegations were raised against police officials and their attempts to cover up the alleged custodial death.

However calling a special attention motion in the Assembly, Edappadi Palaniswami said, ‘The truth will be out only if a CBI probe is ordered in the case.’

Not satisfied with Chief Minister’s reply, the Opposition AIADMK staged a walk out

The post-mortem report revealed that his right tibial bone was fractured and a cut as deep as 3 cm was visible on his body. The report also mentioned that there were bruises on his body on the head, left foot, left eyebrow, left shoulder, and right midline on the back of the trunk.

It also revealed that his cheek was swollen and there were bruises and contusions in the body on the right hand and the lower part of the right leg.
