Chennai : At a time when the Tamil Nadu government was stoutly opposing the NEET exams for medical admission as it went against the aspiring students in rural areas and those from economcially poor background, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said due to the efforts taken by former CM M Karunanidhi entrance exams, backed by the Supreme Court’s approval, were abolished for admission to UG engineering and medical courses.
He was speaking after inaugurating the 30,000 sqft first academic block of Sai University at its main campus in Payanur near here and laying the foundation stone for the more than two lakh sqft second block.
Over the next 10 years, the university will invest Rs 600 crore and have 3,000 students, the university said in a release. Sai University is promoted by the Sai Education, Medical, Research, and Charitable Trust.
Inaugurating the building, Stalin said it was due to Karunanidhiâs efforts, the Stateâs gross enrolment ratio stood at 51.4% as against the national average of 27.1%.
He also recalled Karunanidhiâs efforts to abolish entrance exams for admission to undergraduate engineering and medical courses, backed by the Supreme Courtâs approval.
The Chief Minister requested Sai University and its management to support the State governmentâs âNaan Mudhalvanâ scheme.
