Kollywood remake of hit Hindi film Badhaai Ho is gearing up for theatrical release on 17 June.
Titled Veetla Vishesham, the film is the Tamil remake will see RJ Balaji reprising Ayushmann Khurrannaâs role, while actors Sathyaraj and Urvashi will be stepping into the shoes of actors Gajraj Rao and Neena Gupta respectively.
It is directed by RJ Balaji and NJ Saravanan.
Speaking about the film, RJ Balaji says, ‘I don’t know how many saw the Hindi movie. I wanted to tell this story to Tamil audience.
We took five months to alter the script for Tamil masses. The story has been retained and screenplay has been altered.
The story is about a youngster getting ready for wedding. And what happens when his mom gets pregnant then forms the crux.
The last seven minutes in the movie will be engaging and totally different from the original, he says.
Urvashi who acted as my mother in Mookuthi Amman reprises the role. She is a versatile actress. Sathyaraj plays my dad.
He said that Veetla Vishesham would one of the top ten movies in his career, says Balaji.
Asked why a remake, RJ Balaji says, ‘Though we had a different story initially, when we were approached with the remake rights, we thought we should give it a try. It sounded new to Tamil cinema.’
