The much-awaited General Council meeting of the AIADMK is all set to begin in few minutes. Thousands of cadres gathered outside the wedding hall in Vanagaram in much anticipation as party leaders have started to arrive.
Security has been tightened and slogans supporting Edappadi K Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam were raised. 23 resolutions will be passed at the meeting.
The meeting assumes significance as issue of single leadership has been raised. A tug of war is on between OPS and EPS.
Panneerselvam intends to have the dual leadership format in the party to continue. After the demise of Jayalalithaa in 2016, the party has been following a dual-leadership formula with EPS as co-coordinator and OPS as coordinator. Voices grew louder for single leadership in the party since the district secretary meeting on June 14. Both camps have held several rounds of talks to resolve the issue but remained unsuccessful.
